The word journey characterizes Sarah’s life best thus far. As a daughter of a pilot in the Air Force, she and her family moved all over the world before she was even in Middle School. By 5th grade her family settled in Kansas and Sarah began her life as a Mid-Westerner. Despite living in the “Bible Belt,” and having a loving family, Sarah did not grow up in a Christian home. Out of her own felt need for something more, she began seeking God in High School - attending various church events and youth groups; and by the time she moved to college at Kansas State University, she’d found friends who could explain Christ and the Gospel to her. Not long after, she accepted Christ herself. She joined a wonderful church, became a part of the community and started to make some dear friends. However, her new faith was very soon tested during what became the hardest years of her life so far.
In the span of her college years, Sarah fell in love and married. However, her new marriage quickly became difficult. She struggled with God as she sought to know what it meant to be a strong wife and partner, as well as Christian woman. In the marriage, she experienced pain, loneliness, betrayal and confusion about what God wanted for her. By her junior year, the relationship had become unhealthy and it ended in divorce. Although initially devastating, this loss would trigger a time of profound renewal, healing and growth.
Sarah graduated in 2006 with a degree in Psychology and became passionate about pursuing her own growth and serving others. She soon moved to Atlanta to undertake her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Richmont Graduate University. Through that program, Sarah learned about the power of vulnerability, healing and God’s truth. She also grew through her own experience in counseling and gained a rich community of dear friends and family. Sarah was able to intern at Point University (ACC) and fell in love with young people and those going through transition. Since her own college experience was so confusing, she was eager to walk with college students as they faced the struggle of seeking their own identity and battling pain and confusion.
After graduation, Sarah ran the counseling department as well as the disabilities and career departments and served young people at Shorter University for many years. It was there that she saw all manner of needs such as: anxiety, depression, identity confusion, career confusion, relationship problems, healing from past trauma and more.
Sarah’s perspective now is that life is complicated and it’s easy to get lost along the way as we face our own struggles like fear, insecurity, doubt, shame and worry. If we keep those struggles in the dark, they’ll only take root and start to trip us up and make us start to forget truth. It’s only by bringing those dark places into the light that those roots can vanish and we can have eyes to see truth and allow God the space to grow us in ways we could never imagine. It’s Sarah’s joy to be a partner to others through that process and remove the stigma in asking for help.
Sarah has served with various ministries in the past, including Compassion International, Young Life, Heart4Africa, 410 Bridge, Greater Atlanta Christian School and has served in countries like Israel, Kenya, Uganda, Swaziland, China and here in the States. She is now blessed to be at Tapestry and continue her work walking with those on their own journey.
Sarah is now blessed to live her dream of marriage and family by welcoming the healthiest relationship of her life, her marriage to her husband, Nathan. They were married in 2013 and share three children together. Sarah and her family enjoy traveling, food, being creative, laughing, movies and music and exploring our city.
