Three Ways to Stay Connected to Your Child or Teen
Take interest in the things they are interested in- even if you are not interested. Ask questions. Learn. Let them tell you and teach you something. Allow them to be the expert sometimes. It promotes vulnerability and humility in relationships, which always breeds connection.
Create time and space for them- even if it is a short amount of time. Quality interactions over quantity. Dinner time highs and lows. Car conversations. Short walks around your neighborhood.
Let them know that no topic is off limits- no matter how difficult or uncomfortable. You may not have all of the answers to their questions. But openness and willingness promotes connection.
