Family Fun in Marietta
My family and I have spent this past year putting down roots in Marietta. While for us, our enjoyment of this community is mostly about the people we do life with here, the town itself has so much to offer. Here are some of our favorite things to do as a family in Marietta.
If you enjoy music, you may enjoy Tuesday nights at the square when people gather outside the Australian Bakery Café on South Park Square for a bluegrass jam session. It’s fun to sit outside at one of the nearby restaurants and listen from 7 to 9PM as small clusters of musicians form to play their instruments. Or you could always join in! For more information and visit Australianbakerycafe.com
On the last Friday night of the month you can bring a picnic dinner to enjoy at the free outdoor concert at Glover Park. This fun family activity runs from April through September, and you can learn more about it at Marietta.com/glover-park-concert-series.
Weekends are especially enjoyable at the square in the summer with the Farmer’s Market on Saturdays from 9 to 12 and Sundays from 12 to 3. We love sampling the goat cheese and picking up local honey from nearby farmers. More information on vendors and season of operation is at mariettasquarefarmersmarket.net.
Nearby trails for hiking, walking and biking:
Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a great place for a family hike. For a more leisurely stroll or bike ride, I love Cochran Shoals. Located just outside I-285, Cochran Shoals offers 3.1 miles of running/biking trails that run along the banks of the Chattahoochee River. My kids love to venture down to the banks of the river to throw rocks, and to explore some of the tributary trails that branch off from the wide main path. This trail also connects to Sope Creek and Columns Drive. Be prepared to pay the $3 parking fee. To see a map of the trails, visit atlantatrails.com.
